UK wasting ‘tens of billions’ on crumbling infrastructure and badly run projects | Public services policy

The UK is wasting billions of pounds on poorly managed projects and outdated systems, according to Gareth Davies, head of the National Audit Office (NAO). Davies suggests significant savings could be achieved through addressing maintenance backlogs and replacing outdated IT systems. Additionally, he calls for a new approach to large-scale projects, such as HS2 and hospital building plans, to prevent rising costs. Davies suggests the establishment of a cross-government oversight board could help manage these projects more efficiently.
