The UK government could save tens of billions of pounds by addressing poorly run projects, outdated IT systems and crumbling infrastructure, according to Gareth Davies, head of the National Audit Office. He suggests improvements could be made through smarter management of large projects such as HS2, updating archaic computer systems in public departments and reducing maintenance backlogs that impede service delivery. Davies also calls for better management of government procurement and the establishment of a cross-government oversight board.
