U.S. proposes tougher cybersecurity rules for healthcare organizations

The US Department of Health and Human Services has proposed new measures for healthcare providers aimed at enhancing cybersecurity practices. The plans include mandating multi-factor authentication and encryption on patient data, more robust compliance checks, and better adherence to cybersecurity rules. The first year is expected to cost $9bn to implement, with subsequent years costing $6bn. The proposals are open to a 60-day public comment period for healthcare providers and stakeholders to give their views.
