The US Department of Health and Human Services has proposed new measures for healthcare providers aimed at enhancing cybersecurity practices. The plans include mandating multi-factor authentication and encryption on patient data, more robust compliance checks, and better adherence to cybersecurity rules. The first year is expected to cost $9bn to implement, with subsequent years costing $6bn. The proposals are open to a 60-day public comment period for healthcare providers and stakeholders to give their views.
