US and European law enforcement agencies, with the help of multiple cybersecurity companies, disrupted the Russia-based DanaBot malware operation that caused over $50 million in damages and infected more than 300,000 systems. The US Justice Department charged 16 individuals, including two Russian nationals, with various crimes related to the scheme. The DanaBot malware was used for data theft and ransomware deployment among other criminal activities.
