He apparently researched VPN services and puzzled out ways to anonymously wander about the internet. He did not stop there; he also registered with online services to find and locate specific individuals and locations. This technological sleight of hand was complemented by his tech-savviness; he created accounts on encrypted file sharing services, secured an encrypted mail service with a recovery email address, sent detailed profiles of active police officers and PSNI staff via an encrypted email account, and even accessed online platforms for tips and tricks on using Microsoft Excel sheets.
And that still isn’t all, my friends.
He was found in possession of two mobile phones, an encrypted USB, and a laptop, believed to have been used for malicious intent. Documents were found too, which were said to provide useful insight into his suspected terrorist activities.
Now, you’d think a bloke facing such charges would be whisked away and securely kept under wraps until the next date in court. But here’s where the story takes a bit of an interesting turn. You can imagine the surprise when he was released on continuing bail till his next court appointment.
Intriguing, isn’t it? Certainly not your run-of-the-mill courthouse chronicles.
