Scientific journals are being flooded with poor-quality content, apparently generated by artificial intelligence (AI), rather than legitimate research, according to Science. Meanwhile AI-generated content is also said to be pushing metrics into doubt. Open-source, peer-reviewed online publications have also been reduced in value by a wave of “sham science” (a.k.a. academic spam) produced for financial rather than educational purposes.
