The source code for the 2020 version of HelloKitty ransomware has been leaked on a Russian-speaking cybercrime forum by a user identified as ‘kapuchin0’. The leak includes a Microsoft Visual Studio project enabling others to create the ransomware. Despite declaring his intention to develop something superior, the leak could potentially allow other threat actors to develop their own version of the HelloKitty ransomware.
