The restaurant industry has significantly suffered from cyberattacks in recent years, primarily targeting major fast-food chains. Data breaches have been prominent, affecting both employee and customer data, and ransomware attacks have resulted in temporary closures of physical locations. As around 80% of restaurant transactions are now digital, vulnerability is increased and attacks are becoming more sophisticated. Cybersecurity breaches also incur rising costs from reputational damage, operational disruptions, customer trust loss and legal penalties. Despite larger chains being common targets, smaller restaurants face greater susceptibility due to limited resources and expertise.
