Email-related scams have emerged as the main threat for small Australian businesses, with losses exceeding AUD 98m ($71m) and an average loss of AUD 64,000 per breach. Cybercriminals frequently used business email compromise to perpetrate their attacks. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has been actively working to recover the stolen funds, having returned AUD 45m over the past three years. AFP also urges businesses to enhance their cyber security and promptly report cybercrime incidents.
