The Mental Health Crisis: Why Immediate and Affordable Care Needs to Become the Norm

The US is facing a mental health crisis with millions unable to access timely, affordable treatment. The system is failing patients with a lack of prompt care, high costs, strict admission guidelines for inpatient treatment and a reliance on emergency rooms. The solution could lie in emergency psychiatry, offering same-day access to treatment, and the use of telehealth services. However, in order to be successful, the cost barrier must be removed, expanding insurance and treatment provider networks and creating new payment structures.
