The EU introduced its updated Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2) at the start of the year. Now, EU member states must implement this new law into their national legislation by 17 October 2024. NIS2 imposes stricter security and reporting requirements on a broader range of organisations than its predecessor, amid growing cybersecurity threats. This directive covers critical sectors like healthcare, energy and transport, along with digital service providers. NIS2 requires organisations to have effective risk-management measures in place, and the senior management can be held responsible for any infringements.
