The first UEFI bootkit malware for Linux has been detected, so users beware

ESET researchers have revealed a first-of-its-kind Linux UEFI bootkit, named ‘Bootkitty’, which could pose a significant risk despite being in early stages of development. The malware, which targets the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), will not run on systems with Secure Boot and cannot be widely distributed. However, its development signifies growing bootkit threats to Linux. UEFI bootkits deeply embed into systems, controlling them from boot and making detection or removal tough.
