The Deadliest Eating Disorder Is Drug-Resistant

Despite decades of research and the trialling of various therapeutic drugs, clinicians have been unable to identify an effective pharmacological treatment for anorexia nervosa. Treatment through non-pharmaceutical interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy and nutrition counselling are relied upon, however these have been found to be more effective when treating bulimia and binge-eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa patients are more resistant to making behavioural changes, further hindering treatment efforts.
