Investment banks are financial institutions that provide many services, including helping to raise capital, facilitating private placements, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, providing mutual fund management, and offering advisory services. They act as intermediaries between companies and markets, matching buyers with sellers. Despite being less known, there are different types of investment banks, each with its own product/service offerings and capabilities. Many investment bankers specialise in particular industries, geographies, or transaction types. Most entrepreneurs and corporate professionals rarely interact with an investment banker.
