Telegram Messenger briefly disappeared from Apple’s App Store across multiple countries late Monday, sparking a wave of confusion and speculation on social media before the app was restored a short while later.
Screenshots flooded platforms like X, showing users encountering error messages such as “This app is currently not available” when searching for Telegram, while the app’s official App Store listing page returned a “page not found” error for many.
The outage, which reportedly began around 9 p.m. EST on Monday, affected regions including the United States, prompting immediate concern among Telegram’s massive global user base, which the company claims exceeds one billion monthly active users.
Importantly, the disruption did not impact existing installations. Users who already had Telegram on their iPhones or iPads could continue sending messages, accessing channels, and using the app as normal throughout the incident. The removal appeared to affect only new downloads and reinstalls, meaning first-time users or anyone who had deleted the app were temporarily locked out.

Telegram confirmed the resolution directly, stating: “Telegram has been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users.” The company’s official account on X added a lighthearted note amid the chaos, writing, “Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated”. Independent checks conducted after the restoration confirmed the app was once again searchable and downloadable on the App Store.
While the exact cause of the brief delisting remains unclear, some observers have speculated it may be tied to an internal App Review process or a technical glitch rather than a deliberate policy action, though this too remains unverified.
Telegram has faced increasing regulatory scrutiny worldwide in recent years, including ongoing legal proceedings in Australia over alleged failures to remove extremist content and a terrorism-related case against founder Pavel Durov in Russia.
As of now, both Apple and Telegram have stayed silent on what specifically triggered Monday’s disappearance, leaving users to speculate while the app returns to normal availability.
