Symptoms in Rare Genetic Syndrome Alleviated by Repurposed Autoimmune Disease Drug

A drug for autoimmune diseases and cancers has been successful in treating autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1 (APS-1). Researchers from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases found that the syndrome was linked to increased interferon-gamma levels, which ruxolitinib lowers. The drug was tested on five patients, with positive results. Further studies using a larger group of patients have been recommended.
