The US Supreme Court has returned a case challenging Idaho’s restrictions on emergency abortions to a lower court, with a 6-3 vote to dismiss the case for its original acceptance. Whilst the decision permits physicians in Idaho to perform emergency abortions, doctors and abortion rights proponents suggest the lack of long-term clarity leaves patients in a precarious position. Litigation will continue at U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
