The UK government has been warned that its ageing computer systems are an “accident waiting to happen,” with Labour pressing it to disclose the cost and extent of work on systems from the 80s, 90s and 2000s, which could be vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Government data indicates nearly 12,000 NHS computers are still operating the outdated Windows 7, potentially putting them at risk from hackers. The government admitted it doesn’t know how many “legacy” systems are defunct or how much is being spent to maintain them.
