Study links COVID-19 infections in pregnant women to respiratory health issues in babies

Babies born to moms who had COVID-19 during pregnancy show unusually high rates of respiratory distress at birth or soon after, according to a study. None of the babies born to the 200 infected moms in the study tested positive for COVID-19 at birth, but about 17% had respiratory issues. These infants stayed in hospital around 24 days. The study found unvaccinated mothers were three times more likely to have babies with respiratory distress. The researchers highlighted that not all moms contracting COVID-19 during pregnancy experience adverse outcomes for their babies.
