Storing medicines can often lead to their deterioration due to high temperatures and humidity, especially in the bathroom where they’re commonly kept. An FDA representative advises keeping them out of reach as they can be harmful if found by children or people with substance abuse issues. Medicines usually have a use-by date which should be noted; although some medications may still be effective a little while after this date, it’s important not to take risks with medicines such as antibiotics or EpiPens. Old medications should be disposed of via take-back programs or safely discarded at home, but not flushed down the toilet.
