Steward Health Care hit with False Claims Act lawsuit

The US government is suing Steward Health Care, accusing the hospital operator of violating federal laws pertaining to physician compensation and self-referrals. It’s alleged that Steward Medical and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center linked a cardiologist’s pay to his referrals, violating the Stark Law, and improperly billed over 1,000 claims to Medicare.
