Steam tightening up developer security with SMS verification following malware hacking attack

Valve will introduce SMS verification for developers on its Steamworks platform as part of its fresh security measures. This comes after hackers injected malware into several game builds, affecting fewer than a 100 Steam users. Under these new measures, a phone number must be associated with a developer’s Steamworks account, enabling Steam to send confirmation messages when they need to set a game live. The same applies when Steam admins want to invite others to their group, necessitating a two-factor authentication process.
