Senate Republicans block bill expressing support for abortion rights

Senate Republicans have blocked a bill expressing support for the right to abortion. The legislation needed sixty votes to progress but fell short at 49-44, with only two Republicans breaking ranks. The bill, sponsored by all Democratic women in the Senate and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, called for backing access to abortion and restoring protections in Roe v. Wade. This is the third time this year Republicans have blocked legislation related to reproductive health care.
