San Francisco’s Empty Offices Might Start Converting Into Housing

San Francisco landlords are considering converting empty office buildings into apartments after losing an estimated 150,000 workers during the pandemic. The city had called for expressions of interest and received responses for eight properties, which could provide about 1,100 units. Despite the complex process of converting commercial buildings, landlords have been encouraged by Mayor London Breed’s legislation easing requirements for such conversions.
