Salt Typhoon targets telcos again with backdoor GhostSpider malware

Salt Typhoon, a Chinese state-sponsored threat actor, is using a new malware backdoor called GhostSpider to target telecommunications service providers. Cybersecurity company Trend Micro said GhostSpider, used in long-term cyber-espionage operations, can exfiltrate sensitive data and tamper the OS, remaining entirely in memory, encrypting its communication, and adjusting its behaviour to avoid detection. Salt Typhoon has targeted US and regional governments and key industries such as technology and transportation.
