Google’s Threat Intelligence Group has uncovered a sophisticated malware operation by Russian hackers targeting the Ukrainian military through Telegram. Using the deceptive Telegram channel “@civildefense_com_ua”, the operation posed as a service providing software to track Ukrainian military recruiters but was actually distributing malware targeting Windows and Android devices. The malware deployed various tools to harvest information, disable security features and manipulate files. The attacks were part of an espionage campaign targeting Ukraine’s military recruitment.
