The DOJ is seizing 32 internet domains used by three Russian state-sponsored organisations to spread misinformation. The Doppelganger campaign impersonated legitimate news outlets to spread fake news and sow discord. The use of AI in such campaigns is evolving at pace, with AI-enhanced “Russian Troll Farms” able to serve propaganda more effectively. The DOJ’s moves aim to mitigate the impact of such tactics.
