Rural Hospital System Demonstrates the Clinical Benefits of Implementing Universal Hereditary Cancer Testing in Patients with Breast Cancer

Invitae’s study, in collaboration with The Outer Banks Hospital, found universal hereditary cancer genetic testing for all breast cancer patients aligns with the American Society of Breast Surgeons’ guidelines. It showed that 91.4% of patients took up the testing, which improved patient outcomes, optimized resources and informed treatment plans. The study also supports the idea that genetic testing should be adopted as a standard in breast cancer care.
