RFK Jr.’s Campaign of Conspiracy Theories Is PolitiFact’s 2023 Lie of the Year

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 presidential campaign is based on legitimizing conspiracy theories, including discredited claims about the causes of autism and Covid-19. Critics say his political following capitalizes on his family’s name and legacy. He is running as an independent, having abandoned the pursuit of a Democratic Party nomination, and has raised over $15 million. However, his claims have been criticized as false, speculative and conspiracy-minded by reliable fact-checking organizations. Despite this, polls indicate he could secure between 16% and 22% of respondents in a three-way race between himself, President Biden, and Donald Trump.
