Retirement boosts social connection and reduces loneliness in the long term

Retirees in Europe feel less lonely over time due to new social activities and personal connections, according to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. The study found that retirement did not significantly impact loneliness in the short term, but reduced it in the long run. The reduction was notably observed among women and individuals with higher education. Policies supporting post-retirement social engagement could be beneficial, the study suggested.
