Researchers Expose New Intel CPU Flaws Enabling Memory Leaks and Spectre v2 Attacks

Researchers at ETH Zürich have found a security flaw affecting all modern Intel CPUs. The flaw, known as Branch Privilege Injection (BPI), exposes sensitive data and allows unauthorized access to the CPU’s prediction calculations. This lets hackers read the processor’s cache and working memory of the same CPU. Intel has issued patches for the vulnerability and researchers have identified self-training Spectre v2 attacks, which could also leak kernel memory. AMD also suggested a risk from classic Berkeley Packet Filter (cBPF).
