Registration reform for comparable countries’ nurses

The number of overseas nurses registering to practice in Australia has surged, reaching 16,622 in the last financial year. The majority (70%) came from New Zealand under a Trans-Tasman agreement. From March 2025, the process for registering internationally trained nurses will be fast-tracked, reducing application times by up to a year. These changes were recommended by the Kruk Review, which has been allocated $90m in the 2024-25 budget to implement its suggestions to manage workforce shortages.
