Record-Breaking Change Healthcare Breach Impacts 100M+

UnitedHealth Group’s subsidiary, Change Healthcare, fell victim to a ransomware attack by ALPHV/BlackCat in February, leading to the largest US healthcare data breach yet. Over 100 million people had their sensitive data, including names, addresses, and Social Security numbers, stolen. The incident was enabled through stolen credentials without multi-factor authentication and network disruptions continue to persist. A $22 million ransom was paid to confirm the data theft.
