Ransomware to wreak havoc in 2016, ICIT study says

A report by the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology has warned that ransomware attacks on healthcare and other organisations will harm America’s critical infrastructure community. The malware has become so prevalent that it has created its own economy. Criminals are using pricing calculations to target victims and are discovering the right price to charge for targeted industries. Ransomware is responsible for over 400,000 attempted infections and causes approximately $325m in damages. The low cost and ease of creating ransomware means that the market for malware is likely to continue growing.
