Ransomware attacks have cost more than $77 billion since 2016

Since 2016, US healthcare organizations have been hit by 539 ransomware attacks, costing them around $77.5 billion, according to a study by Comparitech. The number of attacks rose from 34 in 2016 to 115 in 2021. The largest loss from a single attack was $160 million. 7.3 million records have been affected in 2023, leading to an average downtime of 18.7 days.
