Ransomware attack hits dozens of Romanian hospitals

Over 100 Romanian healthcare facilities have been hit by a ransomware attack, prompting some to move offline as a precaution. Cyber attackers demanded 3.5 Bitcoin (over £130,000) to restore vital encrypted files. However, recently backed-up data is expected to lessen the attack’s impact. It is currently under investigation by IT specialists, who identified the malware used, but have yet to identify the responsible group. Several hospitals, despite having recent server backups, were forced to turn off internet-connected devices as a safety measure.
