A ransomware attack on Arkansas Oral Facial Surgery Center has potentially compromised the data of 128,000 patients. The attack occurred in July, encrypting x-ray images, files, and documents, but not the patient database. The hackers managed to infect the data of a small number of patients who visited the provider prior to the incident. The attack is believed to be for extortion purposes, but data access or theft has not been ruled out. Names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and medical data were potentially accessed. All impacted patients are being offered a year of free credit monitoring.
