The healthcare industry is the second-most targeted industry and was hit with 458 incidents in 2016. The increase in ransomware attacks may be due to the introduction of Ransomware-as-a-Service, where criminal developers create ransomware kits for hackers in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds.
