Queensland will join New South Wales as the only Australian states enforcing data breach notification. This follows a recommendation from the Coaldrake Review and the escalation of high-profile data breaches. The Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 will improve transparency, offer better privacy protection, align state privacy laws with commonwealth laws and lead to more open release of cabinet documents.
