Security consultant Martin Riley has warned that criminal gangs backed by Russia, Iran and North Korea could target the UK’s national infrastructure. Recent research suggested the average number of cyber attacks on the UK’s essential services increased by 62% between 2022 and 2023. Riley added that many of these organisations had seen cuts to their cyber defence budgets in this period, despite a growing need for cyber resilience tools.
