Security consultant Martin Riley has warned about the potential risks posed by criminal gangs from Russia, Iran and North Korea, supported by their governments, threatening UK critical infrastructure. Speaking after Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden’s recent warning about cyber threats, Riley called for an increased emphasis on cyber security. He noted that the average number of attacks on UK organisations increased by 62% from 2022 to 2023. Riley also argued that the scale of cyber crime is becoming more professionalized, with sophisticated use of AI.
