Putin-backed gangs could launch ‘devastating’ attack on UK, warns expert | Politics | News

UK security consultant Martin Riley has warned of potential cyberattacks from criminal gangs in Russia, Iran, and North Korea on the UK’s critical national infrastructure. Riley suggested that these threats, in conjunction with a distinct lack of cyber skills in the UK and globally, could jeopardize public finances, transportation, education, healthcare, and military defenses. Despite 65% of key UK sectors experiencing budget cuts for cyber defense in 2022-23, Riley called for smarter investment in cyber resilience tools and practices.
