Putin-backed gangs could launch ‘devastating’ attack on UK, warns expert | Politics | News

Russian-backed criminal gangs could cause severe disruption in the UK by attacking critical national infrastructure, warned security consultant Martin Riley. This comes after Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden highlighted the risk of sophisticated cyberattacks on critical systems such as healthcare and transport. Riley also stated that Iran and North Korea-backed operatives pose a threat. Bridewell’s research revealed a 65% cut in cyber defense budgets in 2022-23 and a 62% increase in attacks on UK’s critical infrastructure.
