Security consultant Martin Riley has warned that criminal gangs, potentially supported by Russia, Iran and North Korea, could target critical UK infrastructure with ransomware. Speaking after Deputy PM Oliver Dowden highlighted the threat posed by sophisticated cyber criminals, Riley echoed Dowden’s concerns. He called on organisations to increase investment in cybersecurity and prioritise best practices. Riley noted that from 2022 to 2023, attacks on UK critical infrastructure increased by 62%.
