UK’s critical national infrastructure could be attacked by ransomware gangs operating with the approval of Russia, Iran, and North Korea, warns security consultant Martin Riley. Cuts in cyber defence budgets and lack of cyber skills could put public finances, transport systems, schools, NHS, Armed Forces, and central government at risk. Bridewell’s research shows the number of attacks on UK’s infrastructure increased by 62% between 2022 and 2023. Riley urges organisations to invest in cyber security and build resilience against threats.
