Security consultant Martin Riley has warned that state-approved criminal gangs from Russia, Iran, and North Korea could conduct cyber attacks on the UK’s critical national infrastructure, which could result in significant damage, public safety risks, and potential loss of life. He emphasised the need for investing in cybersecurity and best practices within organisations. The alert follows comments from Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden about the threat from sophisticated cyber criminals. Riley’s firm Bridewell discovered a 62% increase in attacks on UK infrastructure from 2022-23.
