Security consultant Martin Riley warns that ransomware attacks could generate substantial impacts, including threatening public safety and potentially causing loss of life. Riley urges greater investment in cybersecurity, noting a decrease in cyber defence budgets and a 62% increase in attacks on critical infrastructure in 2022-2023. Earlier this month, a government report highlighted the UK’s vulnerability to a large-scale ransomware attack.
