Vladimir Putin-backed criminal gangs could cause havoc in the UK by attacking “critical national infrastructure”, warns Martin Riley, director of managed security services at Bridewell, adding threats also come from Iran and North Korea. The recent increase in more sophisticated cyberattacks targets public finances, roads and railways, schools, the NHS, the Armed Forces and central government. A shortage of cyber skills exacerbates the problem with many organisations cutting cyber defence budgets amidst rising threats.
