Public sector data under real threat from cybercriminals

Cyberattacks on public sector data are becoming increasingly frequent and sophisticated, with 2.3 million attacks detected on UK councils alone by August 2022, a 14% YoY increase. To combat this, many are looking towards a ‘zero-trust’ approach, which assumes all elements within a network are potential threats, and bolstering cyber resilience by backing up vital data in isolated locations. It’s also suggested that reducing ‘security fatigue’ and empowering employees to make informed decisions about potential threats can further enhance cybersecurity while avoiding the loss of crucial data.
