Project bags grant for Australia’s first national injury surveillance system

A multi-institutional research team has been granted $2m by the Australian government’s Medical Research Future Fund to build a national injury surveillance system. The scheme will harness AI to collate emergency department data and identify injury risk patterns, including those not currently captured such as domestic violence and intentional self-harm. The aim is to guide prevention activity and inform relevant policies, standards and legislation.
